Cairo Jazz Club

February 16, 2009 by SMSU

If you’re the type of person that is fed up with listening to the same monotonous sound that blasts out of every night spot in Cairo; then this could be the place for you.

Situated on the corner of Sphinx Square at the edge of Mohandiseen, the Cairo Jazz Club offers nightly live entertaining , encompassed in a very dark and Jazzy atmosphere, that befits perfectly a live music venue. Despite its deceptive name “The Cairo Jazz Club” – blues, rock, techno and pop are often played there, except on Wednesday nights when you are invited to travel back to the disco era courtesy of the house DJ.

The sound system is state- of-the-art though the stage/dance floor is a little small for my liking. There is however plenty of tables, chairs and bar stools for those not inclined to let it all hang out to the music. Complete that with a host of friendly staff, late night munchies that are extremely appetizing and an even mix of foreigners and locals and a good time is sure to be had by all.

Other Reviews
The one thing you can rely on at the Cairo Jazz Club is that the music (both live bands and DJs) is always the priority. At the same time the food is not bad and the drinks menu extensive. The atmosphere is suitably relaxed, loud, dark, and smoky at night; although it transforms itself into a pleasant bistro in the daylight hours. Both established and up-and-coming musicians and singers resident in Egypt perform here. This is a favorite haunt of “resting” musicians and so impromptu jams are always a possibility. Thursday nights are particularly busy and some evenings are ticket only, so phone in advance to avoid disappointment.
