Bull’s Eye - Mohandiseen

June 9, 2008 by Elaine

Bulls Eye is one of those places that you keep heading back to and not only because the food is good, but because it’s such great value. As most establishments in Cairo experience, Bulls Eye was once The Fat Black Pussy Cat and El Gato Negro, but has now been revamped for some time as Bulls Eye, an authentic English pub. This pub oozes rustic charm and warmth, though the crowd does tend to get decidedly noisy and boisterous (especially on Karaoke nights) so if it’s a quite romantic dinner you’re after, this is definitely not the best place.
On my first trip to Bulls Eye, I realized it wasn’t just another bar. Like the speakeasies of the 1920’s, Bulls Eye strives for the sense of secreted sophistication. It is the kind of place where, behind that plain brick façade, folks in the know get treated to private club like service and superior cocktails – a feeling reinforced by the lack of signage out front indicating that you are exactly where you should be.
As the name implies, Bulls Eye also hosts a well known darts competition amongst its regular clientele. So unless you’re 100% sure of your abilities (and aren’t afraid of defeat), weekends aren’t a good time to practice your skills against the pros already established there. The pub’s interior is rich in wood paneling and high tables. The general ambience is one of style and sophistication, yet a relaxing environment for a few drinks with friends.
The brightly varnished bar is the focal point of the room, with tables situated to it’s right and left and a small dance floor across from it as well as a DJ’s booth. Televisions are always on, usually carrying the latest music videos. Overall, you’ll find the atmosphere is congenial.
